Qualification
- Candidate should have passed in HSC (10+2) or equivalent examination with PCM average of not less than 60%
OR
- English as a separate subject
OR
- Candidate possessing B.Sc. Degree in PCM or Electronics with Physics as an individual subject in one of the years, not less than 60% of marks in the final year
OR
- Candidate possessing B.E./B. Tech. Degree from I.I.T or from a college recognized by AICTE
Medical Requirement
- Candidates should be physically fit for sea service under DG Shipping standard norms.

- No Colour Blindness
Course Description
- DNS Course 1-Year is a course leading to B.Sc.(Applied Nautical Science) after 18 months of sea service and also leading to 2nd Mate Foreign going
Certificate
- Certificate of competency awarded by the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India, enabling the cadets to become Navigating officers on board Merchant Navy Ships anywhere in the world.
CAREER FLOW CHART
- 1-Year pre-sea training + 4 STCW course
- 18-months sea service with distance learning (III, IV, V- sems.)
- 4-months post sea 2nd Mate Course + Modular courses + clearing III, IV, V & VI- sems. exams
- Obtain B.SC. Nautical Science Degree + Obtain 2nd Mate (FG) Certificate of Competency.
- 18-months sea service as 3rs Mate & 2nd Mate
- 3-months 1st Mate (Phase-I) courses
- 3-months 1st Mate (PHASE-I courses + modular courses + written & oral exam + obtain 1st Mate Certificate of Competency
- 12-months sea service as Chief Mate
- 1-month ASM course + modular courses + written & oral exams obtain Master Certificate of Competency Sail as the Captain of a Ship
